Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing the election as a difficult contest in which the governor emerged victorious despite facing numerous political opponents.

“Let me congratulate my governor for his re-election for the hard-fought battle. Let me not say battle but war, where you have 17 governors, 50 senators, House of Reps, I don’t know how many they were against one man and he came out victorious. God is good,” Davido said.

He also praised the people of Osun State for voting for Adeleke and, according to him, standing their ground to protect their votes from the polling units through the collation centres.

Davido said he was moved by the support shown to the Adeleke family during the election, revealing that he became emotional several times on election day.

“I can’t remember how many times I cried that day because the love was massive,” he said.

The singer described his uncle’s victory as an example for other political leaders, saying Adeleke’s performance demonstrated the importance of working for the people.

“My uncle should be an example to all other people out there. It shows all other governors out there that if you work for the people, the people will be with you and God,” Davido said.

He expressed excitement about the next four years of Adeleke’s administration and thanked Osun residents for standing by the governor and the Adeleke family despite what he described as intimidation and vote-buying during the election.

As the chairman of the Sports Trust Fund of the State, Davido also revealed plans to contribute to youth and sports development.

According to the singer, he deliberately waited until after the governorship election before pursuing some of his proposed sports development initiatives.

“As chairman of the Sports Trust Fund, I want to do a lot of things but waited for the election to be over,” he said.

Davido disclosed plans to support the development of a recreation centre for young people, with facilities expected to include football fields, swimming pools and basketball courts.

He said the initiative would provide opportunities for young people to develop their talents and participate in different sporting activities.

The singer’s comments come after Governor Ademola Adeleke secured re-election in the August 15 Osun State governorship election, defeating his major challenger, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji.

Davido has remained an outspoken supporter of his uncle throughout the Osun political contest, frequently using his social media platforms to comment on the election and urge voters to protect their votes.
